Jamie Chadwick did not waste any time, taking the lead at the first corner on the first lap and never looked back to take the win in race 1 of the W Series championship weekend.
She has retaken the W Series championship lead by winning the first race of the season-ending doubleheader at Circuit of the Americas.
“I’m really happy with that after starting second. Having Alice behind me on the grid, I knew I had to capitalize at the start and I managed to do that. I’ve won and moved ahead in the championship and that was the main objective today, but the hard work starts tomorrow. I can’t afford to take any risks, so I was a bit hesitant at the start when I came under pressure from Emma but I held on, built a gap and managed the race from there even though it was tricky with the tires. Alice is still right there in the title fight which was always going to go down to the wire, but I’m starting from pole position tomorrow and that’s great, but I still need to work hard.”
Abbi Pulling started on the pole of race 1 after edging out Chadwick by .07 seconds in qualifying. The star of the race may have been championship contender Alice Powell who raced from the 10th starting position to make the podium, finishing in 3rd.
Emma Kimilainen who is 3rd in the championship standings, raced from the 5th starting position up to 2nd overall.
